Tonight Terry Collins looks to become the third greatest manager in Mets history…well, third winningest anyway.
With last nights 11th inning walk off win against the Blue Jays, Collins tied Gil Hodges for 3rd on the all-time list for wins by a Mets manager with 339. Collins, in his fifth year with the Mets, is also tied with Joe Torre as the 3rd longest tenured manager in Mets history, trailing only Davey Johnson and Bobby Valentine, who coached the team for seven seasons. Other than wins though, Collins stats as manager of the Mets have been less than stellar. He’s 339-374 in his time in New York, that’s a .475 winning percentage, and he has yet to lead the Mets to the playoffs.
This year however, things have been different for Collins and the Mets. They currently sit in first place in the NL East and boast a record of 35-30. Congrats Terry!
