Toronto Blue Jays, so hot right now

The Blue Jays come into this series winners of their last 11 (tied with the Mets for longest win streak of the season) and have clawed their way back to within one game of the Yankees in the AL east. Toronto goes as far as their bats take them, with pitching taking a backseat to the show the offense puts on. Sluggers Jose Bautista and Josh Donaldson anchor a lineup capable of blowing a game open at any moment. The Jays have scored 7 runs or more in eight of their last ten games. To put that in perspective and compare it to this powerhouse Mets lineup, the Amazin’s have put up at least seven runs eight times…..this season.

The young studs return to Toronto

Remember back in 2012, when RA Dickey had just won the Cy Young and Mets fans were begging Sandy Alderson to give him a contract extension? Well, instead he baseball mavericked his way into squeezing Travis d’Arnaud and Noah Syndergaard from the Blue Jays grasp for a package of superstars RA Dickey and Josh Thole. Well, tonight Syndergaard and d’Arnaud make their triumphant return to see the organization that drafted them. Oh, and how’d that trade work out? Well, I can’t say for sure if Josh Thole is still alive, and Dickey is 30-32 with a 4.17 ERA since heading up north. I think it’s fair to say the Mets “won” that trade.

The prodigal son returns

Seeing Jose Reyes hurts, it still hurts. Four years later and the wound still feels fresh. Seeing Jose Reyes wearing another uniform is like seeing your ex with an engagement ring. It sucks. And with David Wright all the way across the country, it’s just going to be a four day reminiscing and asking what could’ve been. Reyes/Wright was the Gooden/Strawberry. They made New York baseball fun. But….this picture was almost 10 years ago now, I’m gonna go cry a little bit.
