Rangers Weekly Wrap-Up

Wow. What a week to be a fan in Rangrstown. Mere seconds away from a 5 game win streak that was snapped last night against the Canucks. But that won’t take anything away from the fantastic week the Rags had.

The last time we checked in on the Rangers, they were in a little but of a funk, going 1-1-1 in their last three games. But that all changed fast this week. The offense has gone from completely dreadful to an unstoppable scoring machine in the past week.

That says it all. 21 goals in 5 games. This includes that redonkulous game against the Isles in which goals were scored every 2 seconds. But I’ll get to that. Let’s recap the week

MVP of the week: Ryan McDonaugh

Captain Mac had one of his best weeks of the season. His two goals in the Islanders game helped lift the Rangers and give them their first win of the season against those hacks. He recorded 3 goals and 4 points in the week and he was all over the ice, playing fantastic defense and staying out of the box.

Moment of the week: The comeback in the 3rd period vs. the Islanders capped off by the Klein snipe game winner

It still gives me chills just thinking about it. This game had EVERYTHING. 3 separate 2 goal comebacks, the insane amount of goals being scored back and forth, twitter was going Crazy and best of all we won the game. Going into the 3rd they were down 4-3 and the Isles quickly made it 5-3. The game seemed OVER. I was getting ready for yet another grover celebration. But then just two minutes later Derek Stepan game down and put a wrister past Halak and the comeback was on. Then a minute and a half later, off a one-timer from Stepan, Martin St. Louis, who was cold as ice put one in the back of the net to tie the game. Then the dagger. After Brassard saved the puck and kept it in the zone he found St. Louis who passed up a shot to find a wide open Klein who sniped it right past the glove of Halak. Game. Set. Match.

Looking Forward:

The Rangers have 4 very winnable games. They play the Sabres tonight, the Blue Jackets Sunday, the Flames on Tuesday and the Coyotes Thursday. They have a real shot to win these next four.

Right now the Rangers are tied for 2nd in the Metropolitan division with the Capitals with 74 point. They trail the Isles by 5 and are 1 point up on the Penguins for the first wild card. The biggest thing they have going for them is that they have 3 games in hand on the Islanders and Capitals and 2 on the Penguins.
