Blue Jackets 3 – Islanders 6
The Islanders got romantic Saturday night as they hosted the Blue Jackets at the Ol’ Barn. Poor Columbus. They didn’t even know what was coming. They probably wish they never got off the plane to begin with. The Isles earned their fourth straight victory in convincing fashion.
My valentine this year was, of course, John Tavares.
The Captain hammered home two goals, while also grabbing two assists. That’s right. A four point game for Johnny Hockey, who has been playing as well as anyone in the League over the past few weeks. Tavares has just been on another level this season. You can just tell he has kicked it up to another level. He’s fired up for every shift on the ice, and his energy is contagious to the rest of the team. It’s the little things he does, such as tonight when he got an interference penalty for getting involved in a play while sitting on the bench.
He’s gone full heel. He is hockey’s newest bad boy, and he’s exactly who you want to be the captain of this team.
P.S. He came out of the penalty box and immediately hit this goal to put the final nail in the coffin.
Tavares wasn’t the only Islander to have himself a big game tonight. Josh Bailey got in on the action scoring two goals to go along with his assist. A huge game for the kid, as he’s starting to emerge as a solid first liner for this young Isles team. He has quietly been having a great season, ranking among the top fifteen in even-strength points per minute.
The only thing I have to complain about is the continued woes for my good friend Brock Nelson. The kid started off the season so hot, scoring 15 goals. But he has not scored now in 17 games. What’s most upsetting is that I haven’t had an excuse to post this picture:
in age. Please wake up, Brock. Please.
Quick standings update:
The Isles host the Rags on Monday night. The Rangers may actually have a chance in that game because Henrik Lundqvist will not be in net. Should be a fun time.
In the meantime, Isles Train rolls on!
