ESPN — One year after being named the NFL’s top defensive rookie, New York Jets standout Sheldon Richardson believes he’s just as good as any defensive lineman in the league, including J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans.
Oooooook big guy. Slow your role. I know that I’ve been singing your praises all season, as are most Jets fans, but that doesn’t mean your JJ Watt. The JJ Watt that might win MVP.
I’m not saying that Sheldon Richardson isn’t an elite Defensive Lineman. Honestly, I think that if you’re going top 5 top 5 in the league he might be in there come next year. At this point I think he’s already as good as Muhammed Wilkerson. But you can’t say that you’re one of the one of the best d-lineman of the last few years. Richardson has the potential, but it’s going to take him a year or two to get to Watt levels of production.
BTW- is it just me or was the vaunted front 7 for us this year just useless. This was supposed to be one of the best defensive units in football and they’ve been only mediocre. That’s the reason Rex has to go. It’s not just the numbers that talk about how bad our defense is, but just watching the game it seems like we’ve never been able to win a game on only defense. We used to be able to do that in the Rex heyday.
