It would be wrong to dismiss this season so I won’t do that. Over the years the Giants have made me eternally optimistic. But boy oh boy does this season look bad. If you can’t hold a 14 point lead in the 4th quarter against motherfucking Drew Stanton, then who can ya beat?
Dougie game level 100000
Special teams was obviously an issue on the Ginn punt return that started unraveling the tape yesterday. Defense let Stanton bitch them around from third and long, even though they were for the most part great against the run for the second week in a row.
Jennings was even able to get a little something going yesterday on the ground. Larry Donnell is quickly becoming a favorite target of Eli Manning (Giants are just better when Eli has a tight end to throw to, read: Boss in 2007 and Ballard in 2011).
It kills me to type the words, but the problem right now is Victor Cruz. You basically called out Eli for not giving you enough targets in Week 1. Now you’re in the challenged man’s head. Now you have him overthinking. So he gets a couple more going your way. Great. 5 catches, 60 yards at one point. Then a couple of huge drops in crunch time. But you know what Victor Cruz? Don’t celebrate getting a pass interference call like you caught a touchdown pass. Don’t celebrate every first down. Don’t catch the ball and instead of heading up field try to juke out the guy then make little to no progress. And most of all, don’t call out your teammates.
I remember hoping that Cruz wouldn’t let the fame get to his head. I think we’ve crossed that bridge now. And trust me, I can’t believe I’m saying this, I’ve worn #80 on my back on gamedays for the past three seasons.
So that’s where we’re at right now. 10-6, here we come.
